Barcelona combines a Mediterranean waterfront, medieval lanes, planned Eixample blocks, Modernisme architecture, food markets, beaches, museums, and hilltop viewpoints in a city that is dense but manageable. The first-time map usually links Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Batllo, Casa Mila, the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, La Boqueria, Montjuic, Barceloneta, and Camp Nou. UNESCO recognizes seven works by Antoni Gaudi in or near Barcelona, including Park Guell, Palau Guell, Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, the Nativity facade and crypt of Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo, and the Crypt at Colonia Guell.
The easiest way to plan is by corridor. Spend one day around Eixample and Gaudi sites, another in the Gothic Quarter, El Born, La Rambla, and the waterfront, and a third on Montjuic, beaches, museums, or football. Barcelona Turisme provides official visitor products, tourist offices, accessibility, maps, transport information, guided walks, the Barcelona Card, Bus Turistic, and attraction tickets. TMB, the citys main public transport operator, says metro and bus connect neighborhoods and tourist attractions, the bus network is fully accessible, and most of the metro network is accessible except for a few stations.
Three days is a useful first visit; four or five gives more room for beaches, food, Montjuic, museums, and a Montserrat or Girona side trip. Spring and autumn are usually the most comfortable, while summer brings heat, beach crowds, festivals, cruise traffic, and higher accommodation pressure. Book Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Batllo, and popular viewpoints ahead. Pickpocketing is a real visitor risk, especially on La Rambla, in busy metro spaces, and at outdoor tables, so keep phones and wallets secured.
