Allow 1.5 to 2.5 hours for the fortress, including the steep drive, museum, ramparts, and viewpoints.

Romney Manor and Caribelle Batik suit garden, craft, and photography travelers, while Frigate Bay is the easy beach-and-nightlife add-on, especially for sunset, dinner, or the Strip. Basseterre is hot and bright through much of the year, so plan walking for morning or late afternoon, wear sun protection, and carry water. Cruise-ship days bring the most activity and the most pressure on taxis; non-cruise mornings are calmer for photography around Independence Square and the historic core.
