Fujairah

Fujairah is the UAE's east-coast emirate, facing the Gulf of Oman rather than the Persian Gulf and backed by the Hajar Mountains. It is a sensible choice for beach time, water sports, and heritage rather than high-rise city sightseeing. In Fujairah City, Fujairah Fort, the museum, Heritage Village, and the large Sheikh Zayed Mosque form an easy cultural cluster; farther north, Al Bidyah Mosque and Snoopy Island make an excellent coast-and-history day trip.

The Fujairah government dates the fort to roughly 360 years and describes it at the edge of date gardens, with Heritage Village nearby. Al Bidyah Mosque is identified by the government as the UAE's oldest mosque, while Snoopy Island off Al Aqah beach is a nationally promoted water-sports destination. The result is an unusually varied itinerary: begin with fort and museum exhibits, drive north along the coast for the mosque, then reserve snorkeling, diving, kayaking, or a beach stay around Al Aqah. Wadi Wurayah is a protected mountain reserve nearby, but access and activities must be verified directly.

Fujairah is often cooler than the western UAE coast, but sun, humidity, sea conditions, and mountain terrain still matter. A car is the most flexible option; travel between Fujairah City and Al Aqah is substantial enough to plan as a half-day or full-day outing. Use modest dress at religious sites, ask permission before photographing worshippers, and check whether non-worshipper entry is available at a mosque. For water activities, use licensed providers and follow their safety advice rather than relying on casual shoreline conditions.

Visitor Tip: Pair Fujairah Fort and the museum in the morning with Al Bidyah and Al Aqah later in the day, but confirm water conditions and operator availability before committing to Snoopy Island activities.
