Giza

Giza is the essential ancient-Egypt stop, combining the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the Giza Plateau with the nearby Grand Egyptian Museum. The plateau is a vast outdoor archaeological landscape, not a single viewpoint, while the Grand Egyptian Museum gives the finds and historical context that the open site cannot. First-time visitors should plan them as two major experiences, even though they are close geographically.

Allow a full early morning at the Plateau and at least half a day for the Grand Egyptian Museum; two separate days are better for travelers who want pyramid interiors, the Sphinx, Khufu's Boats Museum, and gallery time without rushing. The museum's official ticket site says its admission includes the Tutankhamun galleries, main galleries, Grand Hall, Grand Stairs, Khufu's Boats Museum, commercial area, and exterior gardens. Entry to individual pyramid interiors is limited and separately controlled, so consult current official ticketing rather than assuming a standard Plateau admission includes them.

The plateau is exposed, hot, dusty, and spread over uneven ground. Start early, use a licensed guide only if wanted, decline persistent offers firmly but politely, and arrange transport between the museum and the Plateau in advance. Walking and wheelchair access vary markedly by route; the outer viewpoints are easier than pyramid interiors. Use only official ticket sites for the museum and archaeological areas, check photography and security rules, carry water and sun protection, and allow time for screening and traffic.

Visitor Tip: Buy only from the official Giza Plateau and Grand Egyptian Museum ticket channels, then schedule the Plateau at opening. It is cooler, calmer, and easier to understand before the day's tour groups and heat build.
