Krabi

Krabi is an Andaman-coast base for limestone cliffs, boat-access beaches, islands and inland forest pools. Ao Nang is the most convenient hub for restaurants, hotels and long-tail boats; Railay is the scenic, car-free peninsula for beaches and climbing; Krabi Town is more useful for local markets and inland day trips. It suits swimmers, climbers, island hoppers and photographers, but plans must remain flexible around wind, rain and marine conditions.

Railay is Krabi's signature landscape: limestone cliffs rise directly behind beaches, and boats provide the practical access. It is especially popular with climbers, but non-climbers can combine beach time, viewpoints and cave or lagoon walks. Confirm boat-departure points, tides and weather, and do not carry more luggage than you can manage through shallow water or over floating docks. Ao Nang is better for a flexible first night and early boat departures.

Tiger Cave Temple is the main inland cultural and physical challenge. The hilltop viewpoint involves a long, steep stair climb, so go early, bring water and wear modest clothing for the temple grounds. Emerald Pool lies in Khao Pra-Bang Khra Wildlife Sanctuary and is a distinct full-day excursion; the Tourism Authority identifies it as a swimmable natural pool. Hong Islands are a boat-trip choice for snorkeling and nature, subject to park, tide and weather rules.

November to April is generally drier, while the monsoon season can change boat plans quickly. Visitor Tip: Base in Ao Nang, choose Railay or Hong Islands only when the sea forecast is favorable, and keep Tiger Cave Temple and Emerald Pool as land-based alternatives.
