Start at Plaza Mijares and the mission-area streets, then visit the San Jose Estuary early for birds and softer light. The estuary is a rare freshwater wetland in Baja California Sur and is better for a quiet nature walk and photography than for swimming. Beaches around San Jose del Cabo can have powerful surf and dangerous currents, so treat posted warnings seriously and use guarded beaches where available. Cabo Pulmo National Park, a marine reserve to the northeast, and the larger Los Cabos coast make good separate-day pairings.

Allow a half-day for the historic center and estuary, or an evening for the Art Walk.
