Piazza delle Erbe preserves the role of the Roman forum as the city's civic and market heart, while Castelvecchio, Ponte Pietra and the Adige riverfront give the visit a stronger architectural and photographic range than Juliet's balcony alone.

First-time visitors should plan one full day for the old centre, or two days if adding museums, churches and an evening performance. Start with the Arena before queues build, continue through Piazza delle Erbe to Juliet's House, then cross toward Ponte Pietra or climb to Castel San Pietro for the classic roof-and-river view. Castelvecchio Museum adds medieval sculpture, paintings and Carlo Scarpa's museum design inside a fortified castle, making it a good choice in bad weather or extreme heat.

Verona is mostly explored on foot, but the historic paving, bridge approaches and castle routes can be uneven. Official civic museum pages list timed rules that change by site: Juliet's House currently requires online booking, and from April 1, 2026 access to the courtyard and house is routed through Teatro Nuovo in Piazzetta Navona. The Arena monument has different daytime visiting rules on performance days, and opera tickets, seating, weather rules and arrival times should be checked directly with Fondazione Arena.

Spring and fall are comfortable for walking; summer brings opera atmosphere, heat and heavier crowds. Verona suits couples, architecture fans, photographers, opera travelers and rail-based visitors pairing it with Venice, Lake Garda, Vicenza or Padua. Restaurants and cafes cluster around Piazza Bra, Piazza delle Erbe and the lanes between them, but prices and crowds rise closest to the major sights.
