Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer is the Art Deco statue of Christ standing on Corcovado Mountain above Rio de Janeiro. Riotur places the monument at 710 meters in Tijuca National Park and notes its development from the 1920s to its 1931 opening, with engineer Heitor da Silva Costa central to the project. The statue is part of Rio's globally recognized mountain-and-sea image, and UNESCO includes Corcovado and the statue within the city's cultural landscape inscription.

The reason to visit is as much the viewpoint as the sculpture. On a clear day, the terrace frames Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, downtown Rio, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, and the Atlantic beaches. Most visitors reach the summit by the official Corcovado train from Cosme Velho, a ride of about 20 minutes through Atlantic Forest, or by official Paineiras vans from points such as Copacabana, Largo do Machado, or the Paineiras visitor center. Elevators and escalators help with the final ascent, though crowds can make movement slow.

Plan 45 to 60 minutes at the top and roughly 2.5 to 4 hours door to door, depending on transport, queues, and weather.
